Carsten Pieper Bandcamp's "New and Notable" column advertised his new album, One Last Time For Love. I didn't knew Lars Bygdén, whose voice often reminds me of Midnight Choir's Paal Flaata, before and looked him up in the net and here on Bandcamp and got stuck with this dark, intense and heartbreaking masterpiece, a tribute to his late wife. Favorite track: Were Not About To Fall Apart.

We’re Not About to Fall Apart Baby’s gone Far away Don’t know where She won’t say She don’t talk to me Won’t look my way In her complete control And this day will end with the breaking of my heart This day will end as we make pretend That we’re not about to fall apart There’s a worm in me Deep in the dark In my flesh Eats my heart ‘Til it’s just a shell An empty well That’s where you come for sympathy And this day will end with the breaking of your heart This day will end in forced consent That we’re not about to fall apart Baby’s gone Far away In her dreams I have changed But I’m still the same I’ll take the blame It’s the way that I was raised And this day will end with the breaking of our hearts This day will end as I take your hand Maybe we’re about to fall apart

Resurrection Now! I’m the one that hurts I’m asking you to see me Got ways to make it worse I’m hoping you can teach me To let the sun inside Show me something that is new Me and you Leave the past behind Blow the fear out of my mind That’ll do Baby lay your hands upon me Resurrection, resurrection now Baby lay your hands upon me Resurrection, resurrection now I’m looking for a cure I’m looking for a potion But I can’t find my way When everything’s in motion You can be my guide Out on the everlasting sea You and me A new day will dawn And in the morning I’m reborn You will see Baby lay your hands upon me Resurrection, resurrection now Baby lay your hands upon me Resurrection, resurrection now I’m the only one that hurts The only one that matters And I only make it worse When I try to make it better Baby lay your hands upon me Resurrection, resurrection now Baby lay your hands upon me Resurrection, resurrection now Baby lay your hands upon me Resurrection, resurrection now

Blood 03:55
Blood There’s blood Blood on your hands Blood on your breath Blood on the lies you sell Blood in the streets Blood stained police Blood on the tales you tell This, this is goodbye Goodbye to the boy Goodbye to the crying child Don’t cover your eyes Blinded by lies You’ll always will be reviled Hey ho here we go On the road forevermore Let the progress come undone Tonight the hammer’s coming down I heard your name in a dream When I was young Before I could even speak There, just out of reach Until tonight You stand here in front of me You’ve got blood on your hands Blood on your breath And blood on the lies you sell Blood on your trail Blood up ahead And blood on the road to hell Hey ho here we go On the road forevermore Give the power to the clowns Tonight the hammer’s coming down Hey ho here we go On the road forevermore Strains of fear for everyone Tonight the hammer’s coming down

Go Your Own Way Mama come quickly I’m fading away I am of no use anymore Mama come quickly, please mama explain Where in this world I belong Go your own way, go your own way I need your direction, I’m lost and it’s late Go your own way, go your own way I’m bound for the gutter You’d better pray Papa come see me I’ve made a mistake I’ve lived just to lessen the pain I’ve run from my future I’ve run from my past I’ve run from becoming a man Go your own way go, your own way I’m trying to change but I don’t have the faith Go your own way go, your own way The hole in here inside me the price that I pay Brother and sister you’ll listen to me We share something simple and true Keeping the secret and hiding the truth I’d be lost if it wasn’t for you

Beautiful Morning I couldn’t help myself The words just slipped right out of me And you were seeking vengeance Since you’ve been losing sleep Now this day’s been poisoned And it’s barely even dawning On this beautiful, this beautiful morning Worried thoughts are nagging me forever in my head I feed them hours feed them hours feed them minutes Staying in my bed Then I give ‘em all to you Suddenly and without warning On this beautiful, this beautiful morning I couldn’t help myself The words just slipped right out again You were looking for affection I was looking for a friend Now somewhere in the distance I can feel the end is coming On this beautiful, this beautiful morning On this beautiful, this beautiful morning

Goodbye II 03:23
Goodbye II Once you were young Now you are old Once had a heart Once had a soul Once you dressed up Now you don’t care Once you did dream It brought you here Once made a choice Now it’s too late Every regret Every mistake You can not change What you’ve become But you’ll get it right, the next time around The table is laid The motion is set That same old clip on repeat in your head A stalker, a friend A constant ally Never alone Nowhere to hide Goodbye The war is over But the beast still runs free Living among us In you and in me

Skandinavia 04:51
Skandinavia Another lonely morning Another sleepless night Outside the leaves are falling And I am not alright I wish that I was dreaming That I was still in bed The point of no return approaching A bullet’s coming for your head Skandinavia’s falling Skandinavia’s coming down No one listens when I’m calling Now Skandinavia’s finally coming down I read your lips when you are dreaming I read your mind when you’re awake Does it really matter is there something worth to save? And the end is coming nearer Our chances growing slim Still your conscience getting clearer with each and every sin Skandinavia’s falling Skandinavia’s coming down No one listens when I’m calling Now Skandinavia’s finally coming down

Dark Companion The Dark Companion holds my hand Through the summer and the rain Her intentions are unknown And I try to understand Why she follows me around Tracing every move I make Claiming acre after acre of my land And she keeps me wide awake Through the warm and drizzly nights Puts her spell on me Twisting my insides I try to look away But her face is all around She’ll be here tonight until the end of time Nobody knows We’re all alone Nobody sees She lives in me The Dark Companion took my hand Sometime many years ago And I took her for a friend Now we both are getting old But I’m not asking her to leave I just want us to make peace I just need her in a place where my soul can be at ease Oh but constantly her voice Challenges my beliefs Whispers in my ears Twists reality I’m calling out to her But she gives me no reply Just watches as my life is drifting by Nobody knows We’re all alone Nobody sees She lives in me Please set her free

Here Comes the Sadness Looking through your photographs Summer days and frozen laughs And you Long before the darkness fell Signs they were so neatly veiled Untrue In my mind I’m back again My life is still in your hands I wish I didn’t know what I know now Here comes the sadness Will anybody miss you when you’re gone? Here come those bad days Helplessly forever on your own Here come the regrets The ones that you just couldn’t leave alone Here comes the sadness chasing in your footsteps ‘til you’re gone Restless heart so filled with fear A life in ultra rapid gear And I’m paralyzed I watch my life from outer space Watching it all go to waste tonight Once my mind was swift and clear Now I am just barely here Pushing further down into the mine Here comes the sadness Will anybody miss you when you’re gone? Here come those bad days Helplessly forever on your own Here come the regrets The ones that you just couldn’t leave alone Here comes the sadness chasing in your footsteps ‘til you’re gone

Goodbye III 03:21

about

"My wife, Ulrika Jönsson, died on November 11, 2017. Dark Companion has been constantly present for me and accompanied by the prolonged farewell we have been through for the last 4 years.”

A farewell, but also a starting point for a new life. On his forthcoming fourth solo album, Dark Companion, Lars Bygdén gives a dark and compelling insight into a terrible process until the inevitable end. But it is also a starting point for Lars and his children in this new life. The album is dark, beautiful, sensitive and his most inner work ever.

In 1996, Bygdén formed the country rock group The Thousand Dollar Playboys in Sundsvall. The group released two albums, made a huge impact locally, toured Europe and US and dissolved in 2002. He then continued as solo artist and released his first album in 2005, Trading Happiness for Songs, including the duet This Road with Ane Brun. 2009 came the album Family Feelings and in 2012 LB. Bygdén has also made the theme song for a major TV show. The animated video to The Hole from LB became both Manifest and Grammy-nominated.

In fall of 2018 Lars Bygdén makes a longer tour of Sweden mainly playing theaters. In the spring of 2019, Europe awaits."
